Never to Late

It’s almost June, the halfway point of the year is just a few days away. By this point only a few people have managed to stick with the goals they set at the beginning of the year. Our resolutions seem out of reach right? After all the year is half over. Well I have good news for you, it is never to late to start on your goals and dreams.

Six months have passed. Does that mean your dream of writing a novel has passed? Can we not create paintings and poems in the summer? Do our dreams expire if we do not quickly conquer them? The dreamer can achieve anything; this is something that is never in doubt. Six months have passed, that means we still have six more months left to achieve so much. Imagine what can be done in that time!

One of the things I dislike about the whole New Years resolution ritual is that it makes many people think that there is only one time to chase after their goals. It gives us a restricted time frame for us to go after our dreams. If you stumble or fall then there is no hope to catch up. If you don’t achieve your resolutions within 365 days then you can’t achieve them at all.

This is categorically untrue. Our dreams do not run on a clock, they do not expire; they do not die just because of the time of day. There is no better time than right now to achieve your dreams. That was true yesterday and it will be true tomorrow. Just because you have not had the opportunity, or initiative to chase your dreams yet does not mean that they are impossible. Just because six months have passed does not mean that you are dead in the water. Your dreams are not bound to a calendar. You can still achieve anything, you can still create new ideas, you can still explore new worlds. There is no restriction to when you can do that. There is no time frame that is best for having a new idea.

Dreams are not bound to a clock, or a calendar they are bound to us. The important thing is not the time of year but our determination to see them through. Yes sometimes we need to let go of a dream before it destroys us or everything else. Sometimes we need to grit our teeth and buckle down. Sometimes we just need a kick in the butt to get us off the couch. Either way it does not matter when you start, you can set a goal at any point in time. Sometimes they can be achieved in a few months. Sometimes they will take the whole year. Often you will find that the big dreams don’t happen all at once. They take years.

No matter what your resolution was this year, it is still not to late to get started on it. You may need to adjust where the goal posts are, or maybe invest in a new way of doing things. Our dreams will never come true if you don’t work on them. We have six more months in 2015, let’s make them count.
